Youth Street Update

Yesterday the record was broken. We had more than 50 youth fo Youth Street Teams, our afternoon program and over 60 youth for Youth Street Live, the evening program.
An organisation that handles at risk youth, brought us about 25 youth /kids and the local youth shelter that offers a place to sleep for youth/kids than don't have a place to sleep that particular night, brought us some kids, too.
Well, all in all, it went pretty well. Considering that we didn't have an outreach team here, it went really well. We had a few conflicts and could avert some fights. Let me say it like this: We were a little frustrated because there was so much teasing going on and we constantly had to arbitute conflicts, but the staff member from the youth-at risk organisation was surprised how quiet the evening went.
Usually there would always be fights, therefore, some teasing, name-calling and pushes here and there wasn't anything to be concerned about. Good to know ;-)
But I have to admit, I also had some good times with the trouble makers. I really like all of them a lot.

Please pray that Youth Street stays and becomes respectively a place where kids will feel at ease. Please for a peace, especially between white kids and Aboriginal kids and of course among each other, too.
Please pray for us to have a little more control in the time that someone is speaking (about God and Christian values). Yesterday that time was a little chaotic but most of them were new and didn't know our rules yet. We really need wisdom how to handle everything. Thank you!

Cyclone Hamish

People at the coast in Northern Queensland have been in turmoil because of a cyclone named Hamish. Several towns prepared for the cyclone that got stronger and stronger. Cyclones are like hurricanes but the wind goes the opposite direction.
But instead of hitting land, the cyclone went parallel to the coast. Yesterday he was upgraded to the category 5 (the worst category with winds with gusts of more than 280 km/h) but today he has become "only" a category 4 (winds with gusts of 225 - 280 km/h)
If it hits land, it could have cause vehement destruction like cyclone Larry in 2006 that destroyed almost the entire banana crop for Australia. A kilo of bananas costed $15-16 that year instead of $2-4.

Please pray with us that the cyclone keeps on staying in the ocean and looses intensity.
Of course I'm not affected by the cyclone at all since I live 10 hrs inland but Townsville was in turmoil.
Since all of the Youth Street youth are registered in the same database as those in Townsville, there was also a mistake happening. The youth in Mt Isa were called by staff in Townsville that there won't be Youth Street because of the cyclone. Heehee. Fortunately, many still came!

Naturkatastrophen

So, after several have approached me because of the bush fires in Australia, let me comment about that...
Since Victoria is all the way in the South of Australia and I'm in the North, we are not physically affected by the fires (That would be like rain in Denmark while there are fires in the South of Greece).

The North has struggled with the exact opposite - as already mentioned. Floods. Someone drove over a crocodile in Townsville because it was lieing on the road in the water. We might have strange things happening but that's normal!

The damage of the floods exceeds $60 million. Some regions had to be evacuated. However, most of the people in Northaustralia agree that the fires are much worse. As far as I know nobody died in the floods, just cattle. Unfortunately, that is not the case with the fires. Over 200 people lost their lives.
That's why all Australia is in shock, they are donating and praying. I hope that helps to clear things up. You don't have to worry about me but please pray for the people down South.

Outreach Teams

I just realised that I haven't written on here for awhile but I was also pretty busy. Not only that we have the outreach team from Townsville here, there will be four teams from different corners of Australia be coming in April. One of the teams will have about 30 members. That means there is a lot to plan (which is one of my responsibilities). It's cool to see how many want to come to Mt Isa.
My week has gotten a lot fuller these days. One of these coming days I will put my new schedule on here so that you have a clue what's going on in me week.

Gebete wurden erhört/ Prayers were answered

*************************************************************
Hallelujah (this word has become a very common word in our household). The Newcastle team sure enough made it through to Townsville, even though the roads were still officially blocked. The team prayed a lot beforehand and also fasted (that was not just because of the journey but they did that in general) and they were sure that they would get through somehow. They were welcomed by a cyclone that was heading towards Townsville. Today they were able to fly to the Philippines.
The Townsville team didn't leave on Sunday but instead they are on their way now and should be arriving in about an hour. Thank you so much for your prayers!

Straßen wieder gesperrt / Roads are closed again

********************************************
Could you please pray for roads between Mt Isa and Townsville to open up again. The Newcastle Team that is here at the moment has to drive back to Townsville on Sunday. From there they will fly to the Philipines to continue their outreach.
On the same day when the Newcastle Team is leaving a new team (Townsville discipleship training school) is planning on coming. So, it would be good if the roads would be open. At the moment all roads are closed again - even the detour roads.
That's why Mt Isa has a shortage of bread, milk and fresh produce again :-( Well, we will most likely survive. But seriously, all shelves with these kind of groceries have been empty.

Lock Down / Kirche

*************************************************

So, the "lock down" at Youth Street is over. Most of us were able to stay up all night from 6pm to 8am. We watched different movies, played games (cards, playstation, pool, group games with disco light). At the end we all had breakfast together. Then we were happy to get home and sleep.

At night we went to a church where a lot of indigenous go to. Some of the kids also go to Youth Street. The pastor of the church drives around and picks them up for it or on Sundays and Wednesdays for his church.

There are a few pictures of the lock down and of the church tonight. I got a new camera for Christmas (thank you, dad), so I've gotta use it! ;-)
