Wer liest diesen Blog regelmäßig? / Who reads this blog on a regular basis?

I still want to keep you guys informed but I have decided to keep my blog very general from now on. This is because of personal but also ministry-related reasons.
These past weeks I've been struggling with the question of what I would still write on this blog; that's why I haven't mentioned many of the cool things that have happened.
Anyway, a few of you get this blog and my other -not published on the internet- updates as emails. With you everything will stay as it has been. But there are also a few who I don't know or I might not have your email adress. Please contact me here if you would like to keep informed in a more personal way. Then I will add you to my mailing list.

Endlich alles erledigt! Finally everything done!

********************************************************
I'm coming home! I know that nothing new but after so much craziness of planning this trip, I'm glad that I'm done booking it. Well, almost: I still have to send the fax with my signatures to the travel agency tomorrow (I have to go to my church here for that since we don't have a fax machine). But then it will really be complete and done.
I will arrive at home on the 7th of June and I'll be leaving for the US on the 30th of June.
Well, now I have to plan my time at home.
If you'd like me to talk about the ministry here in your house group or if you'd like to hear about my work (maybe over a coffee ;-)), please drop me an email.
My time in Germany didn't really feel like holidays at all the previous time since I went from one appointment to the next to talk about my ministry. That's why I have decided to only dedicate the beginning of my time (until the 19th of June)in Germany for appointments like that. Afterwards, I'd like to just enjoy my time being home with my family and friends. I hope you understand!

Visum / Visa

******************************************************************************
Hooray, I just received the news that my visa application has been approved. Praise the Lord! Now I can go into the final stages of planing my holidays. It might sound a little weird but I really need wisdom for that. A couple of things have changed and it could have an effect on everything else. But I hope and pray that I will have planned and locked everything in by next week.

Teams in Hülle und Fülle / Teams On Masse

*english version below*

Today we welcomed another team from Townsville. That makes it outreach team no. 7 for this year ( we've had 3 teams from Townsville, 3 from Newcastle and 1 from the Sunshine Coast here). Last year, we've had seven team spread over the period of one year. We will easily break the record this year!
Next week Townsville will hold the NLM (National Leaders Meeting), where the leaders from the different YWAM bases meet. Johannes will also attend and advertise for Mt Isa - so maybe even more teams will be coming.
I was joking about it today and said that by next year we might have teams all the time (without interruption) and having two teams at the same time will not be the exception anymore but the norm. Believe me, we're becoming pros in remembering new names fast; on the other hand, I noticed that I haven't been able to get to know the teams as much as I would have liked.
Well, on top of that, our weekly schedule looks pretty crazy. It's been changing over and over again and at the moment, I only have two free nights: Monday (my day off) and Tuesday night. So now there's even the problem of when to have teams over, let alone friends.
You can only hope that they might have some time in the afternoon to meet for a coffee.
It would be great to get a few more long-term staff, but then we would also need accomodation for them. Well, Johannes & Shauna are getting married in July, so August we should get someone new because otherwise, I would have to live alone with Markus - that would probably not be very appropiate. We will see...

Kleines Mt Isa / Small Mt Isa

*english version down below*

*****************************************************

I happen to forget a lot that I live in a small town. That's why I'm often times surprised to meet so many people when I just do a quick errand to the grocery store or the post. I constantly meet someone and chat a little bit. Then you start thinking you'd know a lot of people since that never really happened to me (at least in comparison) when I was at home.

I remember how I was walking over the Freimarkt (fun fair in Bremen) and sometimes never saw any familiar faces.

And then it comes to mind again that there aren't that many people living in Mt Isa. Well, still ~ 23,000 but much less than in Bremen (~600,000).

Anyway, I like to meet people I know or when kids wave at you when you drive by or shout "Hello Miss Chrissie". Still Mt Isa is big enough that not everyone knows everything about you. It's just balanced.

Another thing that I like about Australia in general is that it is very informal. When I go to the bank, I'm not addressed as "Ms Willker" but as "Christina" or "darl"/"sweetie" etc. (not by men but by older ladies that mother me). One reason why I rather like to go to the bank here.

When I enquire about the name of the person I talked to at Qantas (Australian airline) I don't get a last name as a respond but also just the first name. Asking for the last name would be kind of weird (since it would be the norm in Germany), so then I just hope that only one "Amy" works at Qantas. ;-) But I have to say it's one of the things that makes life here so appealing. It's so relaxed.

Youth Street Update

****************************************************************************
Yesterday the record was broken. We had more than 50 youth fo Youth Street Teams, our afternoon program and over 60 youth for Youth Street Live, the evening program.
An organisation that handles at risk youth, brought us about 25 youth /kids and the local youth shelter that offers a place to sleep for youth/kids than don't have a place to sleep that particular night, brought us some kids, too.
Well, all in all, it went pretty well. Considering that we didn't have an outreach team here, it went really well. We had a few conflicts and could avert some fights. Let me say it like this: We were a little frustrated because there was so much teasing going on and we constantly had to arbitute conflicts, but the staff member from the youth-at risk organisation was surprised how quiet the evening went.
Usually there would always be fights, therefore, some teasing, name-calling and pushes here and there wasn't anything to be concerned about. Good to know ;-)
But I have to admit, I also had some good times with the trouble makers. I really like all of them a lot.

Please pray that Youth Street stays and becomes respectively a place where kids will feel at ease. Please for a peace, especially between white kids and Aboriginal kids and of course among each other, too.
Please pray for us to have a little more control in the time that someone is speaking (about God and Christian values). Yesterday that time was a little chaotic but most of them were new and didn't know our rules yet. We really need wisdom how to handle everything. Thank you!

Cyclone Hamish

***************************************************************************
People at the coast in Northern Queensland have been in turmoil because of a cyclone named Hamish. Several towns prepared for the cyclone that got stronger and stronger. Cyclones are like hurricanes but the wind goes the opposite direction.
But instead of hitting land, the cyclone went parallel to the coast. Yesterday he was upgraded to the category 5 (the worst category with winds with gusts of more than 280 km/h) but today he has become "only" a category 4 (winds with gusts of 225 - 280 km/h)
If it hits land, it could have cause vehement destruction like cyclone Larry in 2006 that destroyed almost the entire banana crop for Australia. A kilo of bananas costed $15-16 that year instead of $2-4.

Please pray with us that the cyclone keeps on staying in the ocean and looses intensity.
Of course I'm not affected by the cyclone at all since I live 10 hrs inland but Townsville was in turmoil.
Since all of the Youth Street youth are registered in the same database as those in Townsville, there was also a mistake happening. The youth in Mt Isa were called by staff in Townsville that there won't be Youth Street because of the cyclone. Heehee. Fortunately, many still came!
