I have to admit that I've been procrastinating to write in more detail what we have been doing here from day to day. Johannes and I have tried to put down a schedule: when to do what but honestly, it's not working. Because there is always something that interrupts that schedule. Well, I guess it's good to have some kind of guide line to go with.
Well, first of all we pray of course: for our ministry, for open doors, for a house that we can move into when the other two staff members arrive, for the town, for the churches, for the youth and that we do God's will and not what WE think is good to do.
Then we meet up with people: pastors, other Christians, youth.
We also go to meetings, sometimes very spontaneously (because we just read about it in the newspaper), other times planned. We went to the council meeting where we met councillors and the new mayor. Or we went to an information meeting of the mine. Why do we do all that? Well, the more people you know, the better. We are also hoping to get some sponsors for youth street in the future and we are also interested in a house that belongs to the Mines. One day we had the sudden thought to register for the local mining expo and it was definitely God who reduces the price of $1200 to $0.
We also go to a Residential College (it's something like a boarding school except that the students go to a public school here in town) where we hang out with the youth.
In 1 1/2 weeks there is an outreach team from Newcastle coming whose schedule we have to organize and then we will also start "Youth Street" which has to be planned in the future.
When the next team is coming in May we will hopefully also have a banquet for business people and parents to introduce "Youth Street".
That's it for now. Let's just say that I'm not bored and I can go more into detail whenever I come home :-)
