Weihnachtsfeier am Pool / Christmas Party at the Pool

******************************************************
Today, Monday, is actually our day off but we were asked if we could help supervise the kids from Yallambee (the indigenous part of the town where we always go to). We all went to the local pool and of course we used the change to jump into it as well. Seriously, if you have 30 kids around you, then you don't need to do water aerobics. You have to walk as fast as you can with 2-3 kids on your arms, on your back or on your shoulder (sometimes all 3 at the same time). And then they still call out "faster, miss!" It was great, I loved it. At the end, everyone got a present for Christmas. Today was the official start of the Christmas/ summer holidays. That might be hard to imagine for all of you at home. But here it's around 40°-44°C (109-110°F) these days.

Geburtstag /Birthday

Letzte Woche war mein Geburtstag. Jetzt bin ich schon 29!!! Hilfe.

Last week was my birthday. Now I'm already 29!!! Uuuh! Maybe it's the fact that so many people are on facebook these days or that they have skype and of course having a landline for the first time in Australia...I just felt so blessed of how many remembered my birthday.
A friend of mine here bombarded me with presents which make me feel much more comfortable in my room (comforter, a pot plant, a wardrobe that she got a garage sale)
At night there was an event called "Carols by candle light" where Mt Isians came to. This year, the whole thing wasn't as well organised but the fireworks at the end made it all worth it.
Afterwards we had Raclette (A Swiss (?) dish) that I brought from Germany. And at the end we watched a movie.

Two months ago a couple from my church promised me a gift but I didn't want to make it public because sometimes people promise something and it never happens. But on Saturday I got the gift, fixed up and done (my church paid for the repairs! I love my churches in Germany and here). I seriously got a car given!!! It is amazing and drives so smoothly. It's a Ford Falcon. Light blue. I love it! The couple had had the impression for awhile to give away their 2nd car but didn't know who to give it to. But one Sunday they knew it was meant for me. Yeah!
I own a car for the first time in my life and when I think about my living conditions and such, I'm even more in awe. God is soo good.

Today, on a Monday, I received three packages from Germany, so in a way this birthday has felt a little extended. I like it!

Herausfordernde Woche / Challenging Week Ahead

Doch in Mt Isa muss man immer wieder nachfragen, weil viele solche Dinge glatt vergessen.

These past couple of weeks have been pretty stressful with different teams being here. We only stopped working when it was time to sleep.

Well, that’s probably because we participated in a lot of ministry stuff that the outreach teams had on their schedule while doing our own work. But the main reason for working overtime is the upcoming fundraising banquet that will take place this Thursday. We invited several people this time and asked them to bring 4-5 other people. But it’s so easy to forget it so we have to keep on reminding people.

On top of that we finally were able to do get a school program called “Auslife” into the school. This program was developed by Youth for Christ and we have been running it in several other school in Queensland. Reef to Outback has been trying to get it into Mt Isa schools for several years but now they finally agreed. Yeah! But unfortunately the dates will clash with the fundraising banquet. Yep, it all comes at the same time.

v Please pray for an extra portion of strength for this coming week.

v For good restful sleep at night.

v For joy.

v That we will feel carried by God.

v Jill and Johannes both have a cold. Please pray for health for all of us!

v That the school program will work out well and many want to hear more about God!

v That many come to the fundraising banquet and donate. We still need $20,000 until the beginning of December.

My own challenge will come up on Sunday. Remember, in March was the first time to drive again after a long, long time (years!). And now the next thing comes up:

Now I have to drive to Townsville all by myself, at least 10 hours of driving through the outback. My friend (I’ve known her for 5 years) will get married on Monday and usually it would have been an ideal day since it is my free day but now it will be a challenge.

Johannes was supposed to go with me but he had to go to a national leaders meeting in Melbourne. He will fly to Townsville from there so we will be able to drive back together.

v Please pray for this long drive. For an alertness and feeling awake (usually I am really exhausted on Sundays).

v Please pray that I won’t have any problems with the car (unfortunately there have been problems with the ignition- that’s why there is the danger of getting stuck after having a break which I don’t want of course since that would be in the middle of the outback without mobile reception)

v No encounter with any type of animal (kangaroos, emus, cows, sheep, snakes etc.)

v Not too many road trains (long, long trucks…you won’t see any like that in Germany – they are always a pain to overtake)

v That I will find my way to the base in Townsville (I have never driven in Townsville) and that I will find the way within the villages where I stop to get fuel, i.e. finding petrol stations and toilets J I never really paid attention to that before but always relied on Johannes.

v Time of departure to Townsville is on Sunday (in Germany that is going to be 10 pm Saturday night)

Australian Youth Representative to the United Nations

The Australian Youth Representative for the UN travelled around and went to Youth Street in Townsville. This is what she had to say about it.

YOUTH STREET

On Saturday night, I went to Youth Street, which is a community development project aimed at reaching young people, with 4 community centres – Townsville, Newcastle, Mount Isa and Perth. Youth Street is an initiative of Youth With A Mission, which is an international Christian organisation.

Seeing Youth Street in operation is truly phenomenal. It was without doubt the most packed out place I’d seen in all my travels, with dozens and dozens of young people using the skate ramps that surrounded the building before coming inside for bands, short films and hanging out.

Service delivery for young people is so tricky and the number of youth centres and PCYC’s that I’ve seen around the country that aren’t really being utilised by the young population is such a shame, particularly so when a lot of young people in these communities complain there is nothing to do. I think the key is involving young people in the building, development and running of these facilities, which is what Youth Street does.

I was shown around by Fiona Saxby and Ryan Booker, who are both young people in touch with the needs of the community they were servicing, and were involving young people in lots of team-building, fun activities and good old fashioned entertainment, using ideas like Skate Teams as ways to foster relationships amongst young people.

Good times

***********************************************
The team (7 adults and a child) from Darwin is here and I can only say that they are an amazing bunch...we don't want to let them leave again. Maybe you can pray that 1-2 will come back after their DTS (discipleship training school) ;-)

My schedule has become even fuller these days because of the team being here but it's great. That's the reason why you haven't heard from me these past weeks.
My personal highlight is going to Yallambee (the street, where only indigenous live) and where we play with the kids. You will hear more about in my next newsletter which is in its final stages. Yeah.

Youth Street was much more relaxed with the additonal Youth Street staff (aka DTS students). Without them it would have been pretty stressful.
Last Saturday, one of the girls of the DTS gave her testimony and asked if the youth wanted to invite Jesus into their hearts. She didn't plan it like that but God was leading her that way. Many responded and talked to the staff later.
Unfortunately, I don't really know what was going on because I was doing security in the building so that no stranger from the street would come inside and steal our stuff.
Now the challenge arises how to do the follow-up. Please pray for wisdom, strength and open doors for what we are planning.

Tonight there will be a band from Townsville arriving. They are going to stay for one week which means, there will be another busy week ahead of us. So, I'm still going to enjoy the rest of half free day.

Bevor die Teams kommen... / Before the teams are arriving...

Und last but not least, Lobpreis lief wesentlich besser letzten Sonntag! Also danke für eure Gebete.

********************************************
This week I can't complain about being bored. The last preparations are being done for the three teams that will be here for the coming 5 weeks to do their outreach. Maybe you can remember that one of my jobs consists of coordinating the team schedule.

So much of my time I spend with calling or emailing people to be sure that everything will go as previously mentioned. Sometimes it's communicating back and forth between team and locals.
Sometimes something changes last minute. I just hope that not too much is changing last minute because that was rather frustrating last time. Almost everyday I had to inform the team about changes which sometimes changed everything else.

Anyway, I hope the best. ;-)
Generally I like to have lots to do (at least this kind of work) with the same deadline- at least once in awhile. But then I hope I did a good job so that not so many things come up that I didn't pay attention to and that make things complicated. Don't know if that makes sense.

Besides that I have some good news: We have a car...well, Johannes has a car. After the youth street camp he spent some days in Townsville and bought a new car there (cheaper there) and drove back to Mt Isa with it on Monday (He had sold his old car a few weeks ago). It was great timing since Adam and I had to return the borrowed car on Sunday.

And *drum role please* we finally have internet at home. After two weeks of no internet to internet at the PCYC to finally having internet here, we notice what a blessing internet at home can be. I got so much done and some of the jobs that I need to get done don't seem like a huge mountain each week. It is also nice not to have 1000s of kids as a background noise when working (as we had it at the PCYC).

Last but not least, worship last Sunday was so much better than the week before. Thank you for your prayers. I'm still glad that those Sundays are over and done with though. But I'm pretty sure that it will not be the last time that I will lead worship :-)

Oh, and we finally signed our house contract and now we have two months time to get $20,000 for the down payment. So please keep on praying for willing Christians and business people who would support our ministry. Or pray for a win of the lottery without having a lottery ticket (well, that would be a miracle, wouldn't it?)
